Second Annual “Sit a Spell in Post” Outdoor Art Exhibit Scheduled

Sit A Spell in Post, Texas

In some communities it is brightly painted longhorn cattle, guitars, pigs…all sorts of things. However, because Post is a little more laid back, with a rich heritage to contemplate, you’ll soon see brightly painted chairs throughout town with and invitation to “Sit a Spell in Post.”

An art project planned in Post provides an opportunity for professional and emerging artists of all disciplines to put their talent on display as part of an outdoor exhibit, “Sit a Spell in Post.” The exhibit will be comprised of chairs decorated by area artists using original designs and the medium of their choice.

“Sit a Spell in Post” will literally bring art to the streets of our community!

Artists are invited to submit a concept using a color rendering no larger than 8.5” x 11”. The concept should represent the spirit or history of Post and/or Garza County and must be received by June 15, 2014. There is no entry fee. “Fifteen artists will be chosen to apply their concept to the chairs that will be displayed throughout the community,” said Rosa Latimer, Executive Director of Caprock Cultural Association, the organization sponsoring the exhibit. “Those artists chosen will each receive a $400 award.”

Artist, sponsors and the community will come together August 5 at the Heritage House for a reception and to celebrate completion of the exhibit. Immediately following, Garza County 4-H members will help install the chairs in the median of Main Street in Post.

The exhibit will remain until the end of October, 2014.
